ABOUT THE PROJECT:

Exceptional Care in an Exceptional Environment

Following years of thoughtful planning and sound fiscal stewardship, Tel Hai Retirement Community announced plans in Fall 2025 to construct a new health care center, replacing the existing Meadows Health Care Center and redefining the future of skilled nursing and rehabilitation services on our campus.

Designed around resident dignity, comfort, independence, and well-being, the new center will feature:

• • A modern, thoughtfully designed environment that reflects the exceptional quality of care provided by our dedicated team
  • Three skilled nursing households, each offering 16 spacious private suites with ensuite bathrooms, promoting privacy, comfort, and accessibility
  • A dedicated rehabilitation household featuring 12 private suites, specialized therapy spaces, and a rehabilitation gym focused on recovery and restoration
  • Welcoming household-focused living areas, including shared kitchens, dining rooms, living rooms, and activity spaces that encourage meaningful connections among residents, families, and friends
  • Bright, naturally lit resident rooms with beautiful campus views and convenient access to outdoor patios and courtyards

Elevating the Resident, Family & Team Member Experience

As we build our new health care center, we are also investing in a transformative approach to care- called The Eden Alternative- that enhances the experience of residents, families, and team members alike.  This approach recognizes each resident as an individual—honoring personal preferences, promoting autonomy, and fostering meaningful relationships that enrich daily life.

To date, 41 team members have completed the initial training and are ‘Certified Eden Associates.’  The next training is planned to begin February 4, 2027. This campus-wide training and culture-change initiative will help shape the future of care across our community.

PROJECT PROGRESS, SCHEDULE, PHASES & TIMING

Construction Achievements & Schedule

Each month brings steady progress as the project continues to take shape and move through the major phases of construction. Recent work has focused on advancing the building’s structural and interior systems while preparing for the next stages of exterior enclosure and finishes.

Over the last month, work included:

• Installation of truss installation, roof sheathing, and shingles
• Interior framing, window install and and wall top-out are also progressing
• Installation of the first-floor ceiling grid.
• Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing rough-ins on the first floor continue 

Looking ahead into October, crews will begin installation of the roofing systems, along with exterior finishes to further enclose the building. Rough-ins will continue into the attic, while second-floor wall top-out and interior framing will advance the building’s interior layout. Together, these activities will continue to move the project toward the next phase of construction.

Construction Phases & Timing

This project is anticipated to be completed in late 2028, and is led by our construction partner Warfel. Phases include:

• Phase 1 (CURRENT): Demolition & construction of first two households. Estimated completion by March/April 2027. 
• Phase 2: Additional demolition and construction of the next two households. Estimated completion by March/April 2028.  
• Phase 3: Final demolition and completion of outdoor areas. Estimated completion by September/October 2028.

In 2025, Meadows Health Care at Tel Hai received a ‘Deficiency-Free State Survey’ by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and is a 5-Star Rated Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services provider. 

In 2026, Tel Hai Retirement Community achieved special recognition as an Age-Friendly Health Systems — Committed to Care Excellence by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. This distinction requires working toward reliable practice of a set of four evidence-based elements of high-quality care for all older adults, known as the 4Ms: What Matters, Medication, Mind, and Mobility.
